Skindred - You Got This

You Got This; Can I Get A; Born Fe Dis; This Is The Sound; Broke; Glass; Big Em Up; Do It Like This; My People; Give Thanks.

Heavy rock outfit Skindred have released their most well-rounded and accessible album yet in the shape of You Got This.

The South Wales band has always been known as an exciting, powerful and entertaining live act made all the more believable with lead singer Benji Webbe, raised around Rastafarian influences and Welsh culture. With this new album the band looks set to cross over to the masses.

The title track kicks off the album with a chugging guitar riff and Webber’s unmistakable vocals. What always sets Skindred apart from their peers is the ability to mix melody with menacing energy and, at the same time, leave the listener with a smile on their face.

After this grand opening two more tempting tracks follow in quick succession before the pace slows with Born Fe Dis – they appear to have thrown everything into the melting pot, yet it still comes with the distinctive Skindred sound.

The reggae influences come through on Glass as Webbe salutes long-lost friends; rather than being unwholesome, the mood is one of respect.

You could never accuse the band of not being diverse; Big Em Up mixes European dance music with nu-metal before a touch of Linkin Park comes through on Do It Like This.

Whilst in the past Skindred have sometimes been seen as the perfect festival band to get the crowd energised, You Got This sees the band come firmly into the spotlight with a set of songs that takes the band up into a higher league.
