Jazz musician Yoni Mayraz has released an eclectic debut album that combines elements of jazz, hip-hop, acid jazz, and Middle Eastern music to create a shimmering new hybrid that will please lovers of all the aforementioned genres.

The album was recorded over the course of a week on a set of instrumental tracks that feature soul-drenched organs, joyful saxophones, and a wicked sense of style, as heard on the opening track Pawnshop.

The Master Wore a White Robe is in contrast, as an eerie presence underpins the track with deep bass pulses and restless beats, bringing the dark atmosphere alive.

If you like a cosmic jazz flute, then Palms might be the standout track in the album, while Dybbuk Tse! offers a slice of driving bass lines and exuberant saxophones.

Elsewhere, 1999 comes with a ‘90s hip-hop influence and some meaty boom-bap beats.

If you are looking for a new artist who manages to broaden jazz’s sonic palette while respecting its traditions, this debut might be the album you need in your collection.
