One of the UK’s leading kitchen retailers is welcoming 180 local school children to its Barton-upon-Humber HQ to offer a first-hand insight in road safety and future career opportunities this week.

Wren Kitchens has a fleet of over 150 lorries that each week travel over 155,000 miles delivering more than 2,000 kitchens to customers’ homes across the UK.

Every day a group of year eight students from Baysgarth School will have the opportunity to take part in an exclusive tour of Wren’s transport fleet including its state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz lorries to drive home the importance of highway safety in the local area.

The 18ft vehicles are aimed at protecting vulnerable road users with 360-degree monitors, extra side lighting for road users at night and low side guards for cyclist’s safety.

From the perspective of a lorry driver, youngsters will broaden their knowledge by learning about blind spots and the importance of health and safety during deliveries such as wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

Lee Holmes, Head of Transport Operations at Wren Kitchens, said: “Working hand-in-hand with our neighbouring community is one of our main priorities so we can gain a greater understanding of each other.

“We hope to develop our working partnership with Baysgarth School to ensure they’re safe whilst walking or cycling to school and to inspire their future aspirations with the knowledge of job opportunities on their doorstep.”

The 90-minute event includes a skywalk tour of Wren’s cutting-edge manufacturing facilities, where students will not only be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the inner workings of the factory, but also learn about various job opportunities ranging from working in the UK showrooms, head office positions as well as out in the field driving and installing kitchens.

Richard Briggs, Headteacher from Baysgarth School, added: “This is a unique opportunity for our students and by getting out of the classroom, we believe this first-hand experience will inspire and motive them.

“Like Baysgarth School, Wren is an integral part of the local community and we are proud to be working in partnership with them to ensure our students are as safe as they can be when travelling to and from school.
