Charity Match This Sunday At Tadcaster Albion

York City Supporters FC are all set for their first match since re-forming as a charity side, when they will face West Yorkshire based 'The Kews Charity FC' on Sunday 27th March. It is guaranteed to be a great day for both sides and spectators.

The match itself will take place at The Global Stadium, home of Tadcaster Albion and kicks off at 2pm. The ground, situated very close to the River Wharfe has suffered from flooding multiple times and that links to the purpose of this match.

Cause of the match

Tadcaster have sadly been victims of severe flooding over the years and most recently, their pitch and clubhouse were partly destroyed and left submerged by storms last month.

In order to conquer the damage, this charity match has been arranged to raise funds for the club to invest in their clubhouse and it will also offer a helping hand to The Brewers in their future at The Global Stadium.

Originally, York City Supporters were scheduled to take on Harrogate Town Supporters, but unfortunately Harrogate had to withdraw, so Darren Powell’s 'The Kews Charity' side agreed to step in.

Darren has been involved in a number of charity games in the past and has helped to raise more than £86,000 over the last five years for charity, a side named in memory of a friend who died of cancer.

About the match

It is the first match of 2022 for York City Supporters FC, as well as their first match as a re-branded side.

Before the rebrand, the side had previously participated in charity games at Bootham Crescent (York City), The EnviroVent Stadium (Harrogate Town) and Moss Rose (Macclesfield FC). Despite poor results including a 7-0 loss, a 5-3 defeat and most recently, penalty shootout disappointment following a 3-3 draw, York City Supporters will look to turn over a new leaf and claim a win in their debut game.

Brad Saxton, the man behind this whole initiative captains the side and has put together his team along with many other York City fans.

The game takes place on Mothers’ Day (Sunday 27th March) at Tadcaster’s Global Stadium and kicks off at 2pm, everyone is welcome and it’s FREE ADMISSION! Plus, the clubhouse will be open for both alcoholic and hot drinks.

There will be a minute’s applause ahead of kick-off to remember the people who have lost their lives in Ukraine after the recent events.

If the game is level at full-time, the game will be decided by penalties to determine the winner of the game.
