Set against the backdrop of a recession in the early eighties, the New Romantic scene took pop music fans away to a place of glamour, sophistication, and seemingly untold wealth. Of all the groups that emerged from that period, Duran Duran were the ones that epitomised this more than any others. With their music videos set in luxurious holiday destinations, it all seemed a world away from their hometown of Birmingham.
Celebrating the band’s four-decade career and love affair with Los Angeles, this new DVD features new interviews with the band and a legendary rooftop set captured in March 2022, shot with the Capitol Records building – the band’s first record label home – as the iconic backdrop.
When most of these tracks were first released, they were seen as throwaway pop numbers. Through time, the songs have been recognised as some of the best pop numbers of the period - influencing bands such as Scissor Sisters and The Killers.
There are some notable omissions from the set list, such as
Is There Something I Should Know? (A former UK Number One) in favour of newer tracks
Tonight United and
Anniversary – the latter song celebrating their fortieth anniversary. As the band ages gracefully, this DVD showcases Duran Duran as a vibrant force still to be reckoned with.
