Doncaster's FCC Environment Signs Armed Forces Covenant

FCC Environment, the waste and resource management group headquartered in Doncaster, has formally signed the Armed Forces Covenant. The agreement solidifies the company's framework for supporting serving personnel, veterans, reservists, and military families across its operations.

The re-signing ceremony was attended by the company’s senior leadership team alongside current and former Armed Forces personnel employed within the business. By executing the Covenant, the firm commits to fair and inclusive recruitment practices, providing flexible provisions for workforce reservists, and maintaining internal support structures for the wider military community.

The company, which originally signed the pledge in 2019, intends to leverage military-derived skillsets—such as leadership, operational resilience, and crisis management—to meet the logistical demands of the waste management sector.

Bill Stone, Group Plant Manager at FCC Environment, speaking from an ex-service perspective, said: “As someone who has served, I know first-hand the values that come from life in the Armed Forces – discipline, teamwork and resilience. Joining FCC Environment gave me the opportunity to build a second career where those skills are recognised and genuinely valued.

“Re-signing the Armed Forces Covenant is important because it shows that commitment isn’t just words – it’s about creating a workplace where veterans, reservists and their families feel supported every day.”

Steve Longdon, Chief Executive Officer of FCC Environment, said: “The Armed Forces Covenant reflects our long-standing commitment to supporting those who serve, and those who have served, our country. We recognise the significant contribution that members of the Armed Forces community make to our business.

“The skills developed through military service – leadership, accountability and the ability to perform under pressure – align strongly with the demands of our sector. By re-signing the Covenant, we are reaffirming our commitment to providing opportunity, support and a culture where colleagues from the Armed Forces community can thrive.”
