English Institute Of Sport Sheffield Accredited As UK Sport Elite Training Centre

To recognise its role in supporting Olympic and Paralympic athletes achieve success on the world stage, the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS), which is run by award-winning leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Sheffield City Council, has been accredited as a UK Sport Elite Training Centre (ETC).

The accreditation highlights the centre’s ‘contribution to providing world-class daily training environments, bringing together high-quality facilities, expert practitioners and a strong performance culture to support athletes and coaches’.

The English Institute of Sport Sheffield will now work collaboratively with centres across the UK to support a ‘connected and high-performing system, enabling athletes to access the environments and expertise they need to succeed’.

On the centre receiving its accreditation, the Director of Performance & People at UK Sport Dr Kate Baker said: “Our elite training centres are at the heart of the UK’s high-performance system. They are where athletes and teams do the hard work every day, supported by outstanding people and expertise.”

“We are incredibly grateful to work with our elite training centres to inspire the nation and make the public proud. Together we are shaping the greatest decade of extraordinary sporting moments, and ETCs play a vital role in making this vision a reality, creating thriving environments where sports, athletes and coaches can perform at their best. We're excited to continue this journey with them, driving success and inspiring the nation.”

The EISS, along with the rest of the UK Sport ETCs, will play a vital role in the UK’s high-performance system as they create environments that bring ‘people, expertise and facilities’ together to ‘drive performance and support sustained Olympic and Paralympic success’.

The centre, which is renowned for its world-class facilities, hosts a boxing hall reserved for GB Boxing’s training, alongside an indoor 200m athletics track and facilities for numerous field events with spectator seating.

In 2025, to ‘further enhance its offering', the English Institute of Sport Sheffield received a £500,000 investment from Everyone Active, which saw refurbishments made to the gym areas as well as a strength and conditioning space.
Sports which are based at EISS, which include British Para Table Tennis, GB Boxing and Para Badminton, will also be able to continue to deliver multiple world, Olympic and Paralympic medallists thanks to 'brand-new state-of-the-art equipment’ which ‘was installed to improve strength training options and help boost athletic performance’.

On being accredited by UK Sport, Everyone Active’s partnership manager Lorenzo Clark said: “We are exceptionally honoured to be accredited as a UK Sport Elite Training Centre. At the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where athletes and colleagues of all ages and abilities can succeed, with access to world-class facilities, expertise and support.”

“This accreditation acknowledges our strong partnerships and how we support Olympic and Paralympic sport in the UK. We remain committed to working alongside UK Sport and partners to take this progress further and help future generations of athletes thrive.”

Athletes who train at the EISS will now benefit from access to ‘top facilities alongside integrated support from coaches and performance specialists’ as they hope to reach the same levels of success as UK Sport Elite Training Centre alumni, which includes Team GB boxer Teagn Stott, British Para table tennis player Fliss Pickard and badminton Paralympics GB star Jack Shephard.
