Highland Frost made history as they defeated Merseyside Foxes to win the inaugural Great Britain National Ball Hockey League (NBHL) title in Sheffield.
Amongst the winning roster was Hull-born Ethan Daintith, who helped his side to a 3-2 victory in which he scored the deciding goal.
On winning the inaugural title, Ethan Daintith said: “Straight after the match I think we were all feeling some relief and pride. That game came right down to the wire and as a nail biter. To win 3-2 and score the winning goal was a great feeling that’s carried over into the weeks since.”
Highland Frost, who remained undefeated in the playoffs, finished top of the league after the regular season with 6 ‘regular time wins’ and 2 ‘over time wins’ out of their 10 matches played.
At the end of the regular season, Daintith had also cemented his own place in the history books, as he had finished as the top points scorer (28), top goal scorer (16) and joint-top assist scorer (12) across the league.

On his own and the team's season, Daintith said: “For me personally it’s been a fantastic summer, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. I do have high expectations of myself, and it's always nice to have the numbers back that up. As a group we have many talented players, and we all contributed.”
The inaugural season of the NBHL Great Britain Tier 2 division showcases ball hockey’s rise across the UK, with teams in the league also representing Merseyside, the Midlands, and Yorkshire, among others.
This also comes after Great Britain men’s team, which also featured Daintith, secured bronze in Group B of the 2026 Men’s Ball Hockey World Championships.
On the success of the league and the future of ball hockey in the UK, Daintith said: "It was new for everybody. There were certainly some challenges along the way. But I think that going forward BHUK and the frost will learn from what went well and what could be improved.”
The Highland Frost are now preparing to travel to New Jersey in September as they look to become Great Britain’s first representation at the NBHL Championships.
They will join all of the qualifying teams in the USA, as all of the division champions (and select runners-up) compete to determine the ‘national champion for each tier of the NBHL’.
On the opportunity to compete in New Jersey later this year, Daintith said: “We are very excited to get the chance to go play against the champions from across the US, Canada and Bermuda. The preparations are going well, and I know the team is really excited. The upcoming season will be a big opportunity for me to continue my momentum from the summer.”
