Leeds Rowing Club Junior Academy is calling on the local community to support its newly launched fundraising event which will take place on 7th November.

The ‘full-day event’ will be held at the Department Building at Leeds Docks and feature a ‘12 hour continuous rowing marathon in teams of four’ alongside ‘DJ’s, music and food, as well as the opportunity to meet members of the rowing community.'

Leeds Rowing Club was established in 2006 and has since grown to a membership of around 200 with the club expanding to a ‘purpose-built second site on the Aire and Calder Canal near Thwaite Watermill in Stourton’ in 2016.
After the pandemic, the organisation started their junior system fresh, with the newly formed Junior Academy taking over from the closed junior squad and giving ‘young people from across schools and hard-to-reach communities’ the opportunity to try rowing.

Some of these young people have since gone on to compete and represent Leeds locally, nationally and internationally with the Junior Academy boasting membership numbers of around 100 after only six years.

The academy and those young athletes who are a part of it will benefit from the funds raised at the event, with the money going ‘directly towards new equipment and help the academy to continue to provide young athletes from hard to reach communities with the opportunity to train, compete and develop at a high level’.

The organisation also hope that the event will ‘help raise the profile of the Academy across Leeds and showcase the exciting programme being developed by its rowers and coaches’.
