Halifax Chamber Choir Concert

On Saturday 27th April at 7.30pm in Halifax Minster, Halifax Chamber Choir present a concert of Sacred Choral Music of the Baroque.

Halifax Chamber Choir is one of the oldest performing choirs in Yorkshire having been founded in 1899 as the Halifax Madrigal Society. In the early part of the last century the choir was in great demand, performing concerts across the North. It still performs concerts several times a year with a wide range of music - Renaissance polyphony, anthems and motets, more modern works - and of course madrigals.

Vivaldi's Gloria is the centre piece of the concert which also features two Bachs with the motet Lobet den Herrn (Praise the Lord) by Johann Sebastian Bach and a Christmas motet Furchtet euch nicht (Don't be afraid) by his first cousin and father-in-law Johann Michael Bach. Less well-known but equally enjoyable are a motet by a Spanish Baroque composer, Francisco Vals, a setting of the Magnificat by the French composer Marc Antoine Charpentier and English Church anthems by Henry Purcell and Jeremiah Clarke.

Once again the programme is accompanied by Dr David Baker when he will be using his newly acquired Chest Organ in the Minster for the first time.

Admission is £12.00 on the door
