The Hedgerow Cards Collection, designed exclusively by Welsh artist Lizzie Spikes, has a beautiful, seasonal illustration for every month of the year.

As the artist at Driftwood Designs, Lizzie’s passion is creating colourful illustrations that can be translated to any number of items. This means her art can be incorporated into people’s everyday lives in the form of, for example, oven gloves, lamp shades, coasters, aprons, clocks and even deckchairs.

When Lizzie and her business partner Becky started Driftwood Designs, cards were one of the first products in their range and, unsurprisingly, they continue to be one of their bestsellers. The new Hedgerow collection is a wonderful addition to the Driftwood offering.

The Hedgerow collection features Lizzie’s illustrations of British wildlife and plants throughout the 12 months of the year, showing the unfolding of time in its shifting seasons. All the images are from the perspective of the hedgerow, as though you are at eye level with the nature depicted, giving the sensation of being in the scene itself.

As we head into spring, the April card features Lizzie’s trademark hare in a field packed with bright yellow dandelion flowers and delicate seed heads, with a rolling country landscape in the background. With May’s card you find yourself in a meadow of delicate wildflowers with orange-tip butterflies fluttering around.

In the summer cards, you can look up at swallows flying among tree blossom or sit on a cliff next to the nest of an oystercatcher overlooking a stunning, summertime coastline. In August you can peek at the fox through gorgeous foxgloves.

Muted autumn colours signify the onset of the colder months with September, October and November illustrations beautifully depicting sheep in heather, a cute mouse curled up among browning oak leaves and snails on toadstools.

The December card is a delightfully traditional depiction of a robin in holly, laden with both berries and snow. Moving into the following year, a cheeky blackbird and wren sit among snowdrops and primula in their own charming illustrations.
