Ghosts, ghouls and a decidedly spooky steam train take over the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway this Halloween as a new family adventure arrives at Oxenhope Station.

Running from 29th to 31st October, the Halloween Adventure begins inside Oxenhope’s Haunted Engine Shed, where mysterious characters, live performances and a Spooky Show set the scene before families climb aboard The Spooky Express for a journey along the Worth Valley.

Specially decorated carriages carry passengers along the five-mile heritage railway, with Halloween characters and a few surprises appearing along the way. There are some jump scares, although the emphasis is firmly on family fun rather than outright fright.

Fancy dress is encouraged, with prizes for some of the best costumes, while each Halloween Adventure ticket also includes a Day Rover giving passengers unlimited travel on the railway for the rest of the day.

Noel Hartley, Business and Operations Manager at Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, said: “There is something about an old railway at Halloween that does half the work for you. Steam, smoke, tunnels, old stations and dark engine sheds already have plenty of atmosphere.

“We’re adding a few things that definitely aren’t normally found at Oxenhope. The Haunted Engine Shed and Spooky Show start the adventure before everyone boards The Spooky Express, and passengers need to keep their eyes open because there may be a few surprises waiting around the railway.

“It’s designed to be fun rather than terrifying, although we can’t promise everyone will make it through without jumping at least once.”

The Halloween Adventure runs on Thursday 29th, Friday 30th and Saturday 31st October, with experiences starting at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 3.05pm and 4.35pm.

Tickets cost £25.50 for adults and £15 for children, including the Haunted Engine Shed, Spooky Show, an allocated journey aboard The Spooky Express and a Day Rover for unlimited travel along the Worth Valley.
