As 2024 ends, many people reflect back over the past year, and what they have achieved. And I will say now, this will look different for everyone.

Some will be in new jobs, have had children, others will have got married or moved house. While for some it will be that they have made it through the year. So whatever it looks like for you, please remember that it is ok and try not to compare yourself to others.

Having reflected on where we were, where we are now and what and where we hope to achieve in 2025. It is important to set out thoughts and ideas in the form of goals.

Goal setting is an effective and powerful tool for strengthening and building mental and physical well-being so enabling us to achieve personal growth.

So where to start? Here are some simple ideas to help you on your way

Be flexible: There is no right or wrong way to set your goals including the time frame in which you must achieve it, so do it in your own time your own way. Remember that every goal you set and achieve helps to improve your self-esteem, self-worth and sense of purpose,

Think Small: While it may be hard to visualise yourself at the top of your ‘wellbeing’ in the future, so it is easier and more realistic to imagine yourself as a happier, more relaxed and less anxious person later in the day once you have completed a smaller more achievable goal, an example of this could be to go for a walk around the block, turn of social media for an hour, or simply sit with yourself for ten minutes, These smaller goals are more achievable and easier to visualise.

Write down your goals: By writing your goals down, it helps to create a visual aid, that is easy to refer to, it is a good tactic to put them up in a place where you will see them, like the fridge or a cupboard door it will give you that gentle reminder to keep going, so promoting motivation and consistency.

Share your goals with people you trust: It is thought that by sharing your goals and aspirations with people that you trust you are more likely to stick to them and so achieve them. Maybe that is because you are answerable to someone else rather than just yourself?

Do not be too hard on yourself if you fail: Just like everyday is different, so is the way you embrace each day, so some days you may make more progress than others, but please know that is totally ok, the main thing is that you do not give up, you keep going ….

Remember small steps make one big step. Good Luck and take care
