A new Yorkshire-based business is aiming to reduce cardboard waste and help local companies lower their environmental impact by giving used boxes a second life.
ReBoxt, based in Knaresborough, has officially launched with a mission to reuse high-quality cardboard boxes that would otherwise be discarded after a single use.
The company supplies graded reused cardboard boxes for moving, storage, e-commerce and general packaging, offering businesses and consumers a lower-cost and more sustainable alternative to buying new packaging.
Founder William Shippam said the idea was inspired by the large amount of perfectly usable cardboard being discarded by businesses every day across the region.
“There’s an enormous amount of packaging that gets used once and then discarded despite still being in excellent condition, simply because it is the wrong size or shape,” he said.
“We wanted to create a practical solution that helps local businesses reduce waste, lower their environmental impact and save money — all at the same time.”
“Sustainability doesn’t always need to mean expensive changes. Sometimes it can be as simple as reusing materials that already exist and being smarter with your resources.”
The business plans to work closely with companies across North Yorkshire and beyond to help divert reusable cardboard from waste streams and extend the lifespan of packaging materials.
ReBoxt sorts and grades boxes based on condition and size before preparing them for resale and redistribution.
The company says it hopes to support a more circular local economy by encouraging reuse and reducing unnecessary demand for new cardboard production. According to environmental estimates, producing a new medium-sized cardboard box can use up to 20 litres of fresh water.
As well as environmental benefits, the business believes reused packaging can offer meaningful cost savings for independent retailers, online sellers and growing businesses facing rising operating costs.
The company has already supported several local and charitable initiatives through packaging donations, including the Sleep Out to Help Out campaign, Ukraine humanitarian aid supplies and costume projects linked to the Knaresborough Bed Race.
ReBoxt has now officially launched and is accepting orders through its website and in-store collections.
