New Campaign Urges Travellers To Protect Holiday Booking

ATOL, the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s financial protection scheme, is launching a new advertising campaign encouraging consumers to check for the Air Travel Organisers Licence (ATOL) when booking their next summer escape.

Recent research conducted by the UK CAA revealed that 72 per cent of UK consumers reported they plan to have a summer holiday in 2025, with Brits planning on spending an average of £2,525 each on their forthcoming getaway to the sun. Thirteen per cent stated they expected to spend £4,000 or more*.

So, with millions of pounds changing hands, the UK CAA’s Trusted Friend campaign will urge people to ‘Check an ATOL’ tool before parting with their hard-earned cash.

Using a disruptive and engaging style, shared across a range of digital channels including Facebook and Instagram, YouTube and Spotify for the next eight weeks, the new campaign, expected to reach 25 million people, will encourage people to utilise caution as they make their booking.

Andrew McConnell, Deputy Director for Communications and Engagement said: “This winter season is when we see the peak in holiday bookings. With many of us planning our 2025 summer holiday escapes.

“We are excited to be launching our new ATOL communications and advertising campaign; demonstrating a new and engaging style for us, but one that we hope with encourage consumers to stop and check their holiday is financially protected by the ATOL
scheme, before they book.

“Be guided by our trusted friends to Check for ATOL before you book that next trip (is our messge).”

The UK Civil Aviation Authority is the UK’s aviation regulator working to ensure that the aviation industry meets the highest safety standards and consumers have choice, value for money, are protected and treated fairly when they fly.

Its ATOL scheme offers financial protection for British holidaymakers when they book a package trip that includes a flight.

The scheme steps in to protect passengers if their holiday company ceases to trade, assisting them to get home if they are already aboard or allowing them to make a claim for a refund if they are yet to travel.
