A community-owned pub in Fadmoor has partnered with a local distillery to launch a range of bespoke spirits, with proceeds directly funding its restoration.

The Plough has teamed up with Cooper King Distillery to offer a selection of Yorkshire-made house spirits. For every bottle sold, up to £10 will be donated to the pub’s renovation fund.

The move follows the broadcast of Our Yorkshire Pub Rescue with Jon Richardson on More4 earlier this year. The television appearance triggered a surge of support, leading the pub to quickly reach the maximum limit of its Community Share Offer. This new partnership allows supporters who missed the share offer to contribute by purchasing spirits at pub events or online.

“This is a fabulous opportunity for our supporters to enjoy award-winning spirits when they come to The Plough but also everyone, wherever you are based, can help us by purchasing a bottle of their favourite Cooper King tipple with money from each sale coming back to us to help fund the community pub renovation,” says Debbie Sheehan of The Plough Management Committee. “Cooper King is a local, family-run distillery with a strong sustainability ethos, so this is a great fit for us as we build meaningful partnerships with local businesses.”

Based in Sutton-on-the-Forest, Cooper King Distillery began production in 2018. The company is noted for its environmental credentials; the spirits produced for The Plough include carbon-negative gins and net-zero-energy single malt whisky.

The bespoke range includes:

Dry Gin and Basil Gin: £41
Berry & Basil Gin Liqueur: £34
Black Cardamom Vodka: £38
Single Malt Whisky: £85

The spirits are available via the distillery’s website and will be served at The Plough when it reopens later this year. Customers purchasing gin bottles can also access a 15% discount on refills at the distillery.

Chris Jaume, co-owner of Cooper King Distillery, says: “We are very lucky to live in this beautiful part of the country that’s so full of fantastic food and drink suppliers and amazing pubs and restaurants. Getting involved with local businesses has been central to what we do from the beginning, so we’re chuffed to be playing a part in the renaissance of The Plough. And we can’t wait to be sipping whisky at the bar there soon!”
