The second concert in Skipton Music’s new season is a highly entertaining programme of music from around the world. It will feature Lotte Betts-Dean and guitarist Dimitris Soukaras who will perform music from Elizabethan ballads to Brazilian Bossa Nova.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Lotte Betts-Dean is an exciting, young, up-and-coming, Australian singer. Since bursting onto the UK scene in 2014, she has been quick to make her mark winning many prestigious competitions. Equally at home with non-classical and contemporary music as with early music and opera, she has also been involved in some fantastic collaborations, most recently appearing on guitarist Dimitris Soukaras’ latest CD.

This is a rare opportunity for the Skipton public to see a musician who has been described as one of the most promising Greek guitarists of his generation. Also a graduate of The Royal Academy of Music, Dimitris Soukaras is the winner of many international prizes and competitions. In October 2021, Dimitris released his latest album ‘Roots: 21st century Greek music for guitar’ on the Naxos label.

Sally Johnson, Skipton Music’s concert secretary said:
“We are absolutely thrilled that the programme is to include the UK premiere of Haiku Op.109, a song cycle by the contemporary Greek composer Philippos Tsalahouris from Dimitris’ latest album.

This concert promises to be a real treat for fans of the guitar and voice alike. Local guitar players, and anyone who sings for pleasure or is a member of a choir, are sure to be delighted by this wonderful evening of music-making.”

The concert will take place on November 9 at Skipton Town Hall, which will be operating a system of numbered and distanced seating to allow people to sit in Covid safe ‘bubbles’. In order to maintain social distancing there will be no licensed bar.

In addition to standard £1 tickets for under-19s, Skipton Music is piloting a new scheme for under-30s this year with a limited number of tickets available for each concert at only £5, on a first-come, first-served basis.
