Private Equity Firm Nova Snaps Up BMP Group And RB Medical

New owner pledges investment and continuity for manufacturing businesses
Industrial manufacturer the BMP Group and healthcare products supplier RB Medical have been sold by Andrew Industries to private equity firm Nova Capital Management for an undisclosed sum.

Nova, which has offices in London and Chicago, specialises in buying and developing industrial and specialised manufacturing companies. It announced the acquisition on 1 October.

The BMP Group makes industrial consumable components and sub-assemblies for a wide range of sectors, including office automation, filtration, automotive, domestic appliances, renewable energy and sustainable tree protection. RB Medical supplies specialised healthcare products to the UK medical sector.

The businesses operate from a number of international sites and have built long-standing customer relationships and a reputation for technical expertise, quality and reliability.

Both will keep their existing management structures, with Nova providing additional strategic, financial and operational support.

David Williamson, Nova's founder and managing partner, described them as "excellent businesses with strong technical capabilities", adding that the firm saw significant scope for growth through continued investment, operational improvement and product innovation.

Responsibility for the businesses on Nova's behalf will be shared by partner Omiros Millas and operating partner Carl Francis, who will work alongside the management teams on strategy, performance and investment.

Mr Millas said the quality of the companies and their people had been a key attraction. "Our approach will be to work closely with the existing management teams, preserving the capabilities and customer relationships that have made these companies successful," he said. He also pointed to opportunities for closer collaboration across the group.

For the seller, Andrew Industries chief executive Mark Bennett said the teams had much to be proud of. "We believe Nova Capital is the right long-term owner to support the businesses in their next phase of development and growth," he said.

KPMG advised Andrew Industries' shareholders on the deal. Surinderpal Matharu, the firm's head of UK diversified industrials M&A, said Nova represented "an excellent home" for the two businesses.

The purchase is the latest in Nova's strategy of investing in specialised industrial firms with strong market positions and long-term growth potential.
