Pupils from Glusburn Community Primary School Represent the school at Leeds Global Learning Awards

Pupils from Glusburn Community Primary School proudly represented their school at Leeds Civic Hall for the Leeds Global Learning Awards 2026.

Members of the school’s Rights Respecting Team and School Council attended the ceremony, where they were presented with a Highly Commended award for their work on “Global Inequalities and the Sustainable Development Goals in the Curriculum.” The award was presented by the Right Honourable Hilary Benn.

This recognition reflects a whole-school commitment to global citizenship. Families have also played an important role, supporting the school’s focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

As part of this work, families contributed by baking and decorating cakes for a UNICEF Day for Change coffee morning, themed around the Sustainable Development Goals.

The school’s ethos is firmly rooted in children’s rights. In a recent letter to the Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, Evalyn, a Year 5 pupil, wrote: “We want to support children to access their rights.” This powerful message reflects the values that underpin every aspect of school life at Glusburn Community Primary School.

The award celebrates the dedication and hard work of pupils, staff and families alike and is a proud achievement for the entire school community.
