The recently opened Leeds casino contains a stylish restaurant entitled the V restaurant (presumably because the casino is situated in the new Victoria Gate shopping centre).

Although the restaurant is situated at the side of the gaming areas, whilst seated you cannot see the gaming tables and it feels like you are in a stand alone restaurant.

A friendly warm Yorkshire greeting was most welcome.

Apparently the freshly prepared ingredients for the dishes are all locally sourced from family butchers in Wetherby, pork sausages from Easingwold, fresh fruit and veg from Guiseley and fresh fish from Leeds Kirkgate Market.

The background music was unobtrusive and the lighting added to a relaxed atmosphere.

The seating area is cosy and comfortable.

I went for the Wensleydale Cheese tart for a starter: very cheesy and tangy, whilst my partner's Homemade Fish Cakes were very tasty, but seemed to be rather fatty as if they had been deep fried.

The main menu has a choice of steaks, fish and chips, steak and ale pie, burgers, salads and a spice rack of Thai green vegetable curry and chicken or king prawn Jalfrezi amongst others.

These latter dishes along with the sea bass are some of the most popular items on the menu.

I went for the Hunters Chicken for my main with coleslaw and sweet potato fries Cooked beautifully it tasted just as good as it looked.

My partner's sea bass came served on a bed of stir-fry vegetables with hoisin sauce. The sea bass was hot, fluffy and fresh - just as you would expect your sea bass to be.

My dessert of Raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake was very sweet, yet tangy and tasty, whilst my partner's Apple and Rhubarb crumble was described as tasty and not too tart. It was served very stylishly on a white dish.

Fresh coffee rounded off a good meal.

Our midweek visit was not too busy, but apparently on a Friday or Saturday it is very popular. I would say after our dining experience it would be worth just going to visit the new casino to dine at the restaurant for the experience alone.
