Broadband provider Quickline Communications has partnered with Enterprise Cube CIC to launch "Better Business," a support initiative designed for start-up and early-stage companies across North Yorkshire.
The programme provides workshops, practical training, and peer-to-peer networking intended to help rural entrepreneurs transition from initial launch to sustainable growth. The initiative is part of Quickline’s social value commitment tied to the UK Government’s Project Gigabit, which aims to extend high-speed broadband to rural and hard-to-reach areas.
By improving digital infrastructure, the organisers intend to help rural businesses increase operational efficiency and market reach. The Better Business curriculum covers core commercial pillars including strategy, marketing, finance, and operations.
Current participants include Stokesley-based NinetyOne Jewellery, Knaresborough creative studio Painting Pots, and Ripon audio equipment firm BishopSound.
Emma Lindsay, founder of NinetyOne Jewellery, said: “I’m really grateful initiatives like Better Business exist to support small, local brands like ours. There’s lots of support for start-ups, but often less for businesses looking to scale.
“Having access to practical guidance, resources and a wider community is making a real difference as we grow.”

Laura Dudley, founder of Painting Pots, said: “I’m delighted to be part of the Better Business programme.
“Quickline’s support has helped me access expert guidance, meet other founders and use practical tools that are moving my business forward.”
Victoria Bishop, of BishopSound, added: “Better Business has given me a fresh perspective on BishopSound. The peer-to-peer support has been invaluable - helping me step back, rethink my approach and identify changes that are already shaping the future of the business.”
Amelia Williamson, Social Value Lead for Quickline in North Yorkshire, said: “At Quickline, our mission is about more than delivering fast, reliable broadband. Through Project Gigabit, we’re committed to creating meaningful social value in the communities we serve.
“Better Business is helping local entrepreneurs access the skills, support and networks they need to grow, so the benefits of connectivity are felt in everyday lives and local economies.”
Richard Lanning, Co-Founder of Enterprise Cube CIC, added: “Rural founders often have great ideas but fewer opportunities to access tailored advice and a strong peer network. Better Business brings people together with practical, hands-on support, helping entrepreneurs build momentum and stay rooted in their communities as they grow.”
