Sir Chris Hoy, a six-time Olympic gold medallist and a two-time Commonwealth champion, unveiled the first in a series of seven Glasgow 2026 murals.

The mural, which is on a ‘railway arch along Glasgow’s Clydeside Expressway’, depicts Hoy’s gold medal celebration at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

On celebrating Sir Chris Hoy, the Chief Marketing Officer at Glasgow 2026, Louisa Mahon said: “Sir Chris Hoy is a true Scottish sporting legend, and we are absolutely thrilled to welcome him to the Glasgow 2026 family." Chris embodies everything the Commonwealth Games stands for – excellence, determination and the power of sport to inspire.”

The revealed mural, which was created by Dair McCormick and David Breen at Residents Studio, can be seen near the Scottish Event Campus which will be one of the 2026 games’ host venues.

A new mural design is set to be unveiled each week on the archways in Glasgow as the start of the ‘biggest sporting event in the UK this year’ draws ever closer.

On unveiling the first of seven murals, Sir Chris Hoy said: “It’s an honour to have that moment immortalised as a mural here in Glasgow. Looking at it now, I can remember exactly how I was feeling at that moment – exhausted, but extremely proud to have won gold for Scotland.”

Alongside the unveiling of his mural, Glasgow 2026 has also announced that Tour de 4, a unique cycling event created by the sporting champion, has become an Official Provider of the Games and an Official Supporter of Team Scotland.

Tour de 4 was ‘established to demonstrate that a Stage 4 diagnosis, while devastating, doesn't define the limits of what's possible', and in its inaugural year it raised £3 million for more than 300 UK cancer charities.

On the partnership between Glasgow 2026 and Tour de 4, Hoy said: “A home Games is always a very special occasion, and Glasgow holds great memories for me. We have a wonderful summer of sport to look forward to in this city, and I am thrilled to play a part in celebrating it.”

“With the Commonwealth Games kicking off in Glasgow in July and Tour de 4’s return to the same city shortly after on the 6th September, a partnership between Tour de 4 and Glasgow 2026 and Team Scotland seems like a natural fit.”

The Tour de 4 event, which was held for the first time in Glasgow last year, will return to the city in September as the ‘unique cycling event’ continues to deliver its message in the city and across the UK.

On the partnership and the support that Sir Chris Hoy brings, the Chief Executive of Commonwealth Games Scotland, Jon Doig OBE said: “Sir Chris Hoy has been such a huge part of Team Scotland since he first competed back in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. He has been a fantastic teammate, mentor and ambassador over the years, so we are delighted that once again he’s lending his support to our team preparing for Glasgow.”

“We are grateful for all that Sir Chris does to inspire up-and-coming athletes, not just in cycling but across all sports, and we are delighted to have Tour de 4 as a partner this summer.”

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, which is set to welcome 3,000 athletes from 10 different sports, will take place between 23rd July to 2nd August across four Glasgow venues.
