Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 12th April

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

From Friday 12th April

Back To Black (12a)
Marisa Abela is Amy Winehouse in this biopic from director Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy). Telling the story of Amy's life and impact on music, this film sees her rise to stardom from adolescence to releasing one of the best selling albums of all time, Back To Black. Promising to be an emotional celebration of a larger than life star, this film is a must see for her legions of fans. The film co-stars Eddie Marsan, Lesley Manville and Jack O'Connell.

Civil War (15)
From writer/director Alex Garland (Men, Annihilation) comes this near future dystopian war thriller, that follows a team of journalists as they head across an American engulfed in a Second Civil War. Being called frighteningly plausible and an unsettling depiction of a fractured nation that has more than a passing resemblance to our contemporary times, Civil War is a thrilling and alarming motion picture. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Nick Offerman. This is an acclaimed piece of filmmaking that hits particularly hard in our current times.
