Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.
From Friday 22nd November
Wicked (PG)
Adapted from Stephen Schwartz’s hit stage show, itself based on Gregory Macguire’s novel and L. Frank Baum’s iconic The Wizard of Oz, Wicked is one of the most anticipated films of 2024! Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, this film adaptation seeks to bring the magic and wonderment of this acclaimed and revered show to the silver screen. The story covers the events of the musical's first act, following Elphaba, an outcast because of her green skin, who studies at Shiz University, and starts on her path to ultimately become the Wicked Witch of the West, and her unlikely friendship with a classmate, who is destined to become Glinda the Good Witch of the North. Ahead of Christmas, this blockbusting adaptation could be a gift to fans of the show, story and newcomers alike.
