Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 6th September
Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.
From Friday 6th September
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (12a)
It’s Showtime! Director Tim Burton is back and returns to one of his most iconic and beloved creations in this long awaited and long time coming sequel to his late 80s hit. Michael Keaton returns as the ghost with the most in the devious Bio-Exorcist Betelgeuse, as he is unexpectedly summoned, by a now adult Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), to help save her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) but can this unholy union of the living and the dead possibly last? Co-starring Catherine O’Hara and Willem Defoe, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is one of 2024’s most anticipated movies and is being called Tim Burton’s best work in decades, as he returns to an old school way of filmmaking, with practical effects, stop-motion, make-up and the kind of hand crafted sets that made him the master of the macabre all those years ago! The juice is loose!
From Thursday 12th September
Speak No Evil (15)
Director James Watkins’ US remake of the 2022 disturbing Danish horror film stars James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis. The film sees an American couple and their daughter go on a seemingly idyllic holiday when they meet and spend the weekend at a British couple’s country estate, but signs point towards all not being well. For fans of the original, you know just how psychologically shattering and impactful this story is, for newcomers prepare your nerves for this tense and unnerving remake.
