Steppe Into Free Half‑Term Fun At The Royal Armouries
Families are invited to discover the world of the Mongolian Steppe this October half term holiday (24th October – 1st November) at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.
Have you ever tried the traditional game of Mongolian knucklebone shooting? Or got up close to a kit of Lamellar armour? Well, now’s your chance as the Royal Armouries is offering a full week of hands-on activities, live shows and creative fun to celebrate their exhibition, Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World.

After the museum’s summer programme of live Mongolian horse shows, this half-term, families are invited to learn about the myths and legends that shaped the cultural identity of the steppe. Hear a Mongolian shaman recount stories passed down by elders, watch as a cavalryman is armed with the authentic kit and weaponry, and follow the trail around the Asian and African Gallery with Mongolian messenger, Batu the Fast.
The Stories from the Steppe event is free to attend 10am-4pm, but advance booking is recommended as demand is high.
It’s also your last chance to see the 250 rare Mongolian objects currently on display in the museum, before the exhibition closes on 1st November. Tickets for Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World start at £7 for adults and kids go free.
