Team GB At The 2026 Milano Cortina Games: Week 2 Roundup


Across days 3-9 of the Milano Cortina games, Team GB won 3 gold medals and recorded three best-ever finishes for a British Olympian, all in cross-country skiing.

Monday 9th February: Day 3

Kirsty Muir was less than 0.5 off the bronze medal in the Freestyle Skiing Women’s Freeski Slopestyle, as her final run, which scored 76.05, secured her best-ever finish in an Olympic final.

Ellia Smeding opened her speed skating campaign in the women’s 1000m where she finished 11th, the highest ever finish for a British female in that event.

Dodds and Mouat qualified for the bronze medal match on Tuesday 10th February after losing to Sweden’s Isabella Wranaa and Rasmus Wranaa 9-3 in the semi-final.

Olympic debutant Mia Brookes finished 4th in the Snowboard Women’s Big Air final, in which she scored a combined total of 159.50.

Figure skating brought day 3’s action to a close as both British ice dance pairs qualified for the final after their rhythm dances left them 16th (Phebe Bekker and James Hernandez) and 4th (Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson).

Tuesday 10th February: Day 4

Anna Pryce made history in the cross-country skiing, as her 32nd-place finish, with a time of 3:50.88, not only left her just two spots short of qualifying for the Women’s Sprint Classic final but also secured Great Britain’s best-ever finish in that discipline.

James Clugnet finished 45th in the Cross-Country Skiing Men’s Sprint Classic with a time of 3:23.66 and therefore was unable to advance to the final.

Short Track Speed Skater Niall Treacy got his second Olympic campaign underway in the Men’s 1000m heats, but after a collision with Canada’s Steven Dubois, he didn’t advance to the quarterfinals.
Matéo Jeannesson featured in the 1st qualification event for the Freestyle Skiing Men’s Moguls, in which he finished 28th with a score of 44.64.

Biathlete Jacques Jefferies finished 79th, with a time of 1:02:11.0, in the Men’s 20km Individual final in his first of three events.

Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds fell just short of a medal in the Bronze Medal Match against Italy’s Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner after losing 3-5.

Makayla Gerken Schofield rounded off day 4’s action in the 1st Freestyle Skiing Women’s Moguls qualification event where she finished 18th with a score of 66.38.

Wednesday 11th February: Day 5

Makayla Gerken Schofield returned for the 2nd Freestyle Skiing Women’s Moguls qualification event, where she finished 22nd with a score of 66.17, missing out on the final by just two places.

Biathlete Shawna Pendry competed in the Women’s 15km Individual event with a time of 54:06.0 to finish in 88th.

On competing, Pendry said: "It's so cool, and I'm so happy. I was so nervous before the race, but now it's out of the way, and I can really enjoy the atmosphere. It's still the Olympics, and I still get to become an Olympian. We still have the sprint race, so it's not all over.”

Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie, Hammy McMillan Jr. and Kyle Waddell (Team Mouat) opened their Curling Men’s round robin campaign with a 9-4 win over China.

In the Free Dance section of the Figure Skating Ice Dance, Fear and Gibson finished 7th with a total score of 204.32 whilst Bekker and Hernandez finished 17th overall with a score of 179.45.

Thursday 12th February: Day 6

Marcus Wyatt and Matt Weston both competed in the Skeleton Men’s 1st and 2nd heats, finishing with total times of 1:53.21 (7th place) and 1:52.09 (1st place), respectively.

Matéo Jeannesson featured in the 2nd qualification event of the Men’s Freestyle Skiing Moguls, where he didn’t progress to the final after finishing 30th with a score of 56.46.

After progressing from the seeding event to the 1/8 Finals of the Men’s Snowboard Cross, Huw Nightingale was unable to make it through to the quarter-final after finishing 4th in his final, leaving him 26th overall.

Anna Pryce finished 24th in the Cross-Country Skiing Women’s 10km Interval Start Free with a time of 24:55.1, the best-ever British women’s Olympic XC result.

Team Mouat returned in the Curling Men’s Round Robin action, where they defeated Sweden 6-3.

On the match against Sweden, McMillan Jr said: “I'm very pleased; the first two games have been very good performances from all of us, so getting up to that quick start is going to hopefully set us up well for later in the week."

Rebecca Morrison, Jen Dodds, Sophie Sinclair, Sophie Jackson and Fay Henderson (Team Morrison) started their Curling Women’s round robin where they lost 7-4 to China.

Friday 13th February: Day 7

Team Mouat opened day 7’s action against Italy, which they lost 7-9.
Snowboarder Charlotte Bankes competed in the Snowboard Cross Women’s event, and she made it to the quarterfinals, where she finished 4th in quarterfinal 1 and therefore didn’t progress to the semifinals.

In the Cross-Country Skiing Men’s 10km interval start free, Andrew Musgrave recorded GB’s best-ever finish as he finished 6th, whilst fellow Brits Joe Davies and James Clugnet finished 12th and 34th, respectively.

On his performance, Musgrave said: “There's mixed feelings. The position is fairly decent, and I was feeling good because our wax tech did an awesome job, so I had super good skis today.”

Jacques Jefferies returned in the Biathlon Men’s 10km Sprint, where he finished 81st with a time of 27:02.5.

Team Morrison lost 3-9 to Korea in the Curling Women’s Round Robin event.

Amelia Coltman, Freya Tarbit and Tabby Stoecker competed in the Skeleton Women’s Heats, and after heat 2 they were in 9th, 6th and 5th respectively.

In the Skeleton Men’s Medal event, Matt Weston broke the track record four times on his way to winning the gold medal, whilst his teammate Marcus Wyatt finished 9th with a time of 3:45.77.

On becoming Team GB’s first ever male skeleton champion, Weston said: “[It means] everything. It means a hell of a lot to me personally; I have worked so hard for this.”

Saturday 14th February: Day 8

Team Morrison defeated Canda 7-6 to get their first win in the curling women’s round robin.

Makayla Gerken Schofield fell to defeat against Austria’s Avital Carroll in the freestyle skiing dual moguls women’s 1/16 finals by a score of 12-23.

Team Mouat claimed a 7-4 victory over Czechia in the curling men’s round robin.

Shawna Pendry finished 89th with a time of 25:27.8 in the biathlon women’s 7.5km sprint.

Kirsty Muir cemented her place in the freestyle skiing women’s big air final after finishing 4th in qualification with a score of 166.50.
Three Brits competed in the skeleton women’s medal event, with Tabby Stoecker finishing 5th, whilst Freya Tarbit finished 7th and Amelia Coltman finished 9th.

Niall Treacy reached the final of the short track speed skating men’s 1500m but finished 9th after a collision during the race.

On qualifying for an Olympic final, Niall Treacy said: “It is not the result you want when you get to the final. I was skating really well. I think if you told me at the start of the day that I would be in an Olympic A final, I maybe wouldn’t have believed you. I am really proud of what I did today."

Sunday 15th February: Day 9

Team Mouat defeated Germany 9-4 and then lost 5-6 to Switzerland in the curling men’s round robin.

Adele Nicoll finished 16th (heat 1) and 13th (heat 2) as she became the first British Olympian to compete in the bobsleigh monobob.

Txema Mazet-Brown finished 27th in the snowboarding men’s slopestyle qualification with a best score of 23.01.

Huw Nightingale and Charlotte Bankes won Team GB’s first ever Olympic snowboard cross medal as they combined to win the gold in the mixed team snowboard cross event.

On winning the gold medal, Charlotte Bankes said: "Immense relief. For me, but also for the team. I think that's what's amazing. Huw has been running incredibly well, and that just shows the strength that we've got as a team. And to be able to perform as Team GB in a team event is incredible. It makes me even more proud."

Team Morrison lost 7-10 to Sweden in the curling women’s round robin.

Mia Brookes and Maisie Hill finished 16th and 21st in the snowboarding women’s slopestyle qualification with best scores of 56.53 and 48.66.

Ellia Smeding finished 25th in the speed skating women’s 500m with a time of 38.93.

Tabby Stoecker and Matt Weston won gold in the Skeleton mixed team event, whilst Freya Tarbit and Marcus Wyatt finished 4th with a time of 1:59.65.

Chris McCormick finished 21st in the freestyle skiing men’s big air qualification with a total score of 127.75.

Figure skaters Anastasia Vaipan-Law and Luke Digby scored 66.07 in the pairs skating short programme to qualify for the free skate, which will take place on Monday 16th.
