Traffic Bulletin: A64 Closure For Bridge Work In North Yorkshire

Road users on the A64 near York are advised to plan their journeys and allow extra time to travel tomorrow night.

The westbound carriageway will be closed between Fulford and Askham Bar from 8pm on Friday, 1 October to 9am the following morning to allow National Highways to carry out repairs on the Bishopthorpe Bridge.

The weather dependent work involves repairing the damaged waterproof layer under the road surface in lane two but a full closure is needed for the safety of the workforce.

Traffic will be diverted via York city centre using the A19 and A1036. Through traffic from further afield is advised to use the A1237 York Outer Ring Road.

National Highways Project Manager Christopher Corcoran said:
“The layer of waterproofing which gives the bridge its protection from the elements needs repairing to ensure safety isn’t compromised. If left, water can get in and break up the road surface so tomorrow night’s maintenance will prevent the need for unplanned closures.”
