Yorkshire-based lighting design specialist, LightsOn.Design, has completed the design, supply and commissioning of a luxury interior lighting scheme, helping transform a Grade II listed building ahead of the launch of a new restaurant in Leeds city centre.

Located on Vicar Lane, Dishoom's new Leeds restaurant is set within a Grade II listed building and is due to open in August. LightsOn.Design designed the lighting across all front-of-house spaces, including the entrance, dining areas, bar, front kitchen, bathrooms and exterior, creating a scheme that complements the building's historic architecture while delivering the warm, welcoming atmosphere Dishoom is known for.

Having served as Dishoom's lighting design partner for more than 13 years across its portfolio of restaurants, LightsOn.Design was appointed to the Leeds project because of its detailed understanding of the restaurant group's lighting standards, operational requirements and distinctive brand atmosphere.

Beginning in October 2025, the nine-month project focused on creating a lighting scheme that supports the customer experience from breakfast service through to late evening.

The design combines bespoke lighting with vintage decorative lights sourced from Bombay, which were carefully restored and reused as part of the scheme, helping to create the warm, welcoming atmosphere throughout the restaurant. Intelligent lighting controls allow the lighting to adapt throughout the day, transitioning naturally from brighter daytime settings to a softer evening ambience while supporting energy efficiency.

"The biggest challenge at Leeds was working within a Grade II listed building with high ceilings. We needed to create a scheme that respected the building's historic character while delivering the warm, welcoming atmosphere Dishoom is known for.

“That meant developing bespoke lighting capable of directing light exactly where it was needed without losing the intimacy of the space, while working closely with the wider project team to ensure the design complemented the building's original features."

Dishoom Leeds will officially open to the public on 14 August 2026, with the project representing the latest addition to LightsOn.Designs’ growing portfolio of high-profile hospitality projects, including The Alchemist, Burger and Lobster, and Tattu, and reinforces the company's long-standing relationship with one of the UK's most recognisable restaurant brands.
