Are You Up For The Challenge At Meat Liquor, Leeds?

Inside Meat Liquor
Inside Meat Liquor
Are you feeling very hungry? If you are the challenge that Leeds restaurant Meat Liquor have might interest you. Called the Triple Chili Challenge, if you can eat all 3 - the Green Chili Cheeseburger, Chili Dog and Chili Cheese Fries in under 10 minutes then your meal is free. Mind you, if you don’t it could end up costing you over £25.00 – the price of all 3 items.

Housed in a basement this Leeds gem has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. You enter down a long staircase, but what really impressed me was the wheelchair lift they had for disabled guests which is something a lot of restaurants don't consider.

With a lot of red lighting, cosy booths, a pool table in the corner and an American saloon type décor it did remind me slightly of the French restaurant chain Buffalo Grill – if you have ever visited one of these whilst in France you will appreciate my observations when you visit this hidden gem.

If you fancy a bargain then the £10.00 lunch deal available Monday to Friday from 12-3pm gives you any burger, fries and unlimited soda for a very reasonable price.

The portions are huge – a serving of fries would easily serve two people. Likewise the onion rings as a starter – priced at £4.00 they are huge in size and big in taste. The menu ranges from Chicken to Beef and even Hot Dogs too, though they do not serve gammon. If you are of a Veggie nature then the Green and Serene Range will be for you.

My Bacon Cheeseburger came with bacon that actually tasted like real bacon – the burgers themselves are meat patties – the meat is sourced from the Scottish highlands and is 100% beef. Priced at £9.50 if you want fries they are extra - I tried the Buffalo Fries priced at £6.50 – though as I say the serving is so large they would be better for sharing. Covered in crumbled blue cheese it felt like I had my calcium intake for a week! The house made Buffalo sauce might be a little too hot for some though, it seemed to take away the taste of the burger

Thinking that diners might be stuffed with food after the generous helpings the Sweet menu is limited to two options – the Filth Pie is a mix of Oreos, marshmallow, coconut and chocolate in a pie served with ice cream - yes it is as sweet as it sounds, but believe it or not all the ingredients go together. You would not want another serving though.

Service was friendly and fast at all tables, even though the restaurant was nearly full. If you want you can pass the time with one of their cocktails from the bar. The place is not easy to find, but once you do find it you will not pass by again. An enjoyable feast with excellent service.
