Teesside Airport Marks Busiest Winter Season Since 2008

Teesside International Airport is set to begin its busiest winter schedule in 17 years, following a successful summer season. The increased activity is driven by the expansion of year-round flight routes and continued passenger growth.

The winter schedule features year-round Ryanair services to Malaga and Alicante, two popular holiday destinations. In addition, KLM's daily flights to Amsterdam will continue, maintaining the airport’s crucial connection to a global network. Charters to Lapland are also available for the 2025/26 winter season, catering to a growing demand for festive day trips.

According to the latest passenger statistics, the airport is on track to surpass its 2024 passenger numbers by 6% this year. The top-performing routes have been the flights to Amsterdam, along with the Ryanair services to Alicante and Malaga. Twice-weekly TUI flights to Majorca have also been well-received.

Phil Forster, the airport's Managing Director, commented on the progress: "It’s great to see we’re heading in the right direction. With Malaga and Alicante back on year-round schedules and KLM holding firm in Amsterdam with its worldwide links, we’re giving people choice and convenience – and a top-quality service from our brilliant team. Passenger growth of 6% is also a testament to our team’s drive and determination."

He added: "We’ve plenty of work ahead – but it’s great to see lots of development on the airport site and passenger numbers on a steady increase."

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen highlighted the impact of the new schedule: "This winter schedule is unlocking Teesside Airport’s potential for our region. It was a real pleasure to deliver on my pledge to bring Malaga’s route to Teesside – it’s been a big hit, which is why it’s running year-round."

"We want more sun, more routes, more reasons for people to fly from Teesside. More than that, we’re building momentum – and the figures year-on-year show our airport is building a solid base. This airport was on the brink of closure in not-too-distant past – we saved it. It’s great to see just how far we’ve come, and the road ahead for the people’s airport is bright."

For the second consecutive year, Teesside International Airport also received a “Very Good” rating from the Civil Aviation Authority for its accessibility, ensuring a positive travel experience for all passengers.
