The Harrogate Food and Drink Festival was held in two locations this year, at The Stray, Harrogate, in June, and at Ripley Castle, Harrogate, on the 22nd and 23rd August. I went along to Ripley Castle on Saturday the 22nd to see what it was all about.

The festival is a family-friendly celebration of international influence and local talent, expressed through food, drink, arts and live music, all underpinned by a philosophy that supports local talent and mental health. The festival’s charity partner is Mind, and it raises funds through optional donations and ticket sales. The charity provides personal support to those suffering from mental health difficulties and works to promote the maintenance of good mental health through courses, activities and group sessions. Mind strongly encourages people to become involved in the community.

The weather last weekend was perfect for the festival, and Ripley Castle was a lovely place to explore the aromas and flavours from around the world. There was so much choice that deciding what to have for lunch proved difficult. There really was something to entice everyone’s taste buds!

Eight independent bars at the festival served everything from beer, champagne, and cocktails to refreshing non-alcoholic lemonade and juices made on the spot.

The street food celebrated international cuisine, crafted by local traders. Indian, Mexican, Brazilian, Greek, Japanese, Jamaican, American, Sri Lankan, Spanish – you name it, you could try it! The vendors also catered to vegetarians and vegans – no one was left out. Desserts came in the form of ice cream, pancakes, sundaes, cakes, muffins and churros, with various toppings.

As if the food and drink weren't enough to keep most people happy, there was also an artisan market with more than 85 independent stalls showcasing their unique products, from sweets and savoury goods to handmade gifts, homeware and art.

Returning for 2026, the Live Cookery Theatre was also in attendance all weekend, with Yorkshire’s own Stephanie Moon, an acclaimed chef consultant, at the helm.

Families were well catered for with live entertainment, including magicians, comedians and children’s entertainers, with shows taking place every hour. Traditional fairground fare and inflatables were also on offer for the children to enjoy.

Live music took place throughout the weekend, with various bands providing entertainment in the form of jazz, soul, and indie music, including saxophonist Will Forrester, Harrogate Spa Town Ukes, and Danny Charles and Hannah Goodall, to name a few. Fleetwood Shack was the tribute band on Saturday, with The Freddie and Queen Experience on Sunday.

Although this was my first visit to the Harrogate Food and Drink Festival, it will most certainly not be the last. Full credit given to all the organisers, vendors and entertainers; it was a complete success!
