10 In 10: Sharron Inglis

Sharron Inglis, Director at Si Recruitment, a recruitment firm which provides permanent and temporary recruitment services in various sectors, based in Windsor House in Harrogate is the latest regional business professional in the hot seat as we give her just 10 minutes to answer our 10 burning questions.

What does a typical working day for you involve?

After we all get our first cuppa of the day, we start reviewing daily applications for jobs before we set off making calls, arranging interviews, taking jobs in, meeting clients, advertising jobs and passing on offers.

No two days are the same for our team and the current market makes it even more challenging due to the lack of active job seekers.

What makes your company special?

It has to be our team, we work collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for our clients and candidates. We have a loyal team who genuinely all get on well together – some have been with us for over 15 years and this provides continuity for our clients and candidates.

Do you have any business rules that you swear by?

We believe that to succeed in this industry we need to be open, transparent and honest to ensure we are trusted and that we develop long term relationships. It is what has kept us here for the last 18 years and allowed us to open new offices.

Do you dress up or down for work?

If I am in the office I dress up as do the rest of the team. I like to have a distinction between work and home so for work it is a dress and shoes everyday which is easy and it puts me in the right mindset. We also need to be ready to see a client at a moment’s notice and I don’t think turning up in our trackies would strike a good first impression.

What piece of advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

It is exactly what I tell my children now – don’t worry about what the future holds, follow your heart, work hard and with the right attitude things have a way of working themselves out

What’s your favourite Yorkshire venue for an event or team away day?

We have recently held a staff team building event at Farm Adventure Yorkshire in Masham and we had the biggest laughs ever. We did pig herding, welly wanging, sheep gathering, egg catching, tractor driving and ‘farmer olympics’. One of our teams even made it on to the annual leader board. We stayed over and the accommodation and food was fantastic, although there were a few sore heads the following day.

How do you prefer to travel for business?

If it’s not local it would always be by train so I can read, which I don’t ordinarily get the time to do unless I am on holiday.

What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire to relax?

You cannot beat the spa at Rudding Park. The facilities are amazing and you come away feeling so relaxed.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Yorkshire, and what dish do you recommend?

One of my most favourite meals I have ever had the pleasure of eating was at Michael O’Hare’s restaurant Man Behind The Curtain in Leeds. It is a tasting menu so the courses are all small and very different. He even served one of the dishes himself which you don’t often get in famous chef owned restaurants.

What do you miss most about Yorkshire when you’re away?

Yorkshire tea without a doubt. I even have to send it to my Mum who now lives in Spain as the tea out there is awful!
