Eurovision: Chatting To The Entrants - Remo Forrer

Remo Forrer
Remo Forrer
Remo Forrer is no stranger to televised competition. While he may only be 21 years old, he has already captured the hearts of his home country, having won season 3 of The Voice of Switzerland (if you haven't checked out his rendition of Harry Styles' Sign of the Times, we highly recommend it). Since then, he has released a string of singles, but it was with the release of his emotionally charged Eurovision entry, Watergun, that he set tongues wagging on the international stage. With his preparations under way for Liverpool in May, we caught up with Remo to learn a little more..

Hi Remo, how are you?

Hello! I'm very good. I'm happy to be on this great journey. It's amazing to be part of Eurovision and represent my own country. I'm really looking forward to it. In a month I will be in Liverpool ready for the preparations. It will just be amazing.

What an exciting 2023 so far... You must be thrilled with how it's playing out. What's been the highlight?

The highlight? There's a lot! The whole of 2023 has been a highlight. We had the production of the song, the music video and the preparation for the staging. This is all very new to me, to work with such professional people, it is just amazing.

We absolutely love Watergun. Tell us a little about the process behind the scenes in creating the song?

Thank you. I was not part of writing the song. It was written in a writing camp for Eurovision 2 years ago and they just wrote about someone who used to play with water guns as a child. Who was not playing with water guns as a child? The times changed and times got hard. He ended up in a real war with real guns and had to fight for his family, which is very emotional and hard. That's how it got written. I got the chance to listen to it last September and I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it. I was sure I wanted to show this song on the Eurovision stage.

Have you always been a big fan of Eurovision?

Definitely since 2011, as that is the first time I saw it. I liked Anna Rossinelli, who was the girl who represented Switzerland that year and every year since then I took time to view it and listen to it. I think it's a very big event and a very nice event to bring a lot of music and singers together in one united event. I think it's amazing.

Who is your favourite Eurovision entry of all time?

Switzerland 2023! I'm joking! I think Sam Ryder is an amazing artist. He was part of it last year, with the song Spaceman, which is an amazing song. I think he's amazing, but I knew him much earlier from TikTok. I was already a fan of his and I was very happy when I heard he was entering Eurovision.

Who do you feel is your stiffest competition?

My stiffest competition... That's a good question. I think Loreen with Tattoo is one of the top favourites, but I am sure there will be a lot of very good ones. Let's just see how it all works out.

What can we expect from your Liverpool performance?

Another good question... I won't say anything about it because I am still in the preparation stage for the staging. I am sure it will be amazing. My goal is to be not alone on the stage, so let's see how it will be. I hope you will see it on the television.

You aren't new to TV competitions. How did your experience on The Voice help shape how you are approaching Eurovision?

I think it was a good exercise to work with professional people backstage and behind the camera. It's just the whole competition that was very helpful. Let's see how I can use it in Liverpool.

What is your Eurovision ambition?

My goal for Eurovision is to get through the semi-final and be in the big final on the Saturday. I want to have a good time doing a good performance. But to be in the Top 10 or Top 5 would be crazy.

And lastly, aside from Eurovision, what other 2023 plans do you have?

No other plans! I'm loving the dream. My life is Eurovision for the moment. I will do my best then take a rest and see what else is coming up. I'm definitely very happy to be in it.
