Slow Down Together at Half Term

For parents looking to turn February half term into something memorable, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is offering a week that combines heritage, exploration and the simple pleasure of slowing down together.

From Saturday 14th February to Sunday 22nd February, the railway will run its Half Term Happiness services every day, with historic steam and diesel trains operating along its five mile line between Keighley and Oxenhope.

The event is designed to transform the train ride into a moving adventure for families who can hop on and off at stations that each tell a different story.

The route winds through West Yorkshire countryside, climbing steadily towards the Pennines and stopping at six distinctive stations along the way.

One of the most popular is Haworth, the gateway to the historic village closely associated with the Brontë sisters and their former home at the Parsonage.

Along the line, visitors can begin at Keighley Station by exploring the award-winning Water Tower Visitor Centre on Platform Four, before travelling to Ingrow where two museums sit side by side.

These include the Bahamas Locomotive Society Engine Shed and the Vintage Carriage Trust museum, offering close up encounters with restored engines and historic carriages.

Further along the route is Oakworth, known to film fans as the setting for The Railway Children, before the journey continues to Haworth where visitors can take a closer look at the working heart of the railway and its fleet of steam and diesel locomotives.

At the southern end of the line, Oxenhope offers another chance to step off the train and explore the Exhibition Shed, home to a changing display of locomotives and rolling stock.

Tom Marshall, the K&WVR’s Marketing Officer, said: “The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is within easy reach of Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield by road while there is a direct connection with mainline rail services at Keighley and bus services from Bradford.

“Car Parking is available at Haworth, Ingrow and Oxenhope so we can offer a warm welcome to all the family including the dog,” he added.

Day Rover tickets are available, with discounts for booking online in advance, alongside family tickets and local resident fares.
