10 In 10: Freya Taylor

Freya Taylor, Marketing and Communications Manager at West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services (WYMS), is the latest regional business professional in the hot seat as we give her just 10 minutes to answer our 10 burning questions.

1. What does a typical working day for you involve?

Working at West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services (WYMS), my role involves a lot of emails and correspondence around various projects and events, treating my inbox as a ‘to do list’.

I’m often taking a new product or service and building a cross-platform strategy around it. I then maintain our social media content calendars with our freelancer, make sure that everything that needs to be scheduled is in and that there are accompanying graphics, whilst also filling gaps with content ideas that the team or I have come up with.

2. What makes your company special?

Our priority is serving the SMEs of the manufacturing industry and fulfilling our charitable obligations. We aren’t profit-driven, and we’re always looking for new ways to support innovation, deliver relevant courses, and build up manufacturing SMEs, whilst remaining as accessible as possible.

3. Do you have any business rules that you swear by?

If you don’t know the answer, find it. Your peers will respect it, and your higher-ups will appreciate it.

4. Do you dress up or down for work?

I dress for my day, so both! I do always put some thought into my appearance so that I’m motivated and ready for the day.

5. What piece of advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Play to your own strengths, stop trying to be perfect at everything and focus on being good at the things that you enjoy.

6. What’s your favourite Yorkshire venue for an event or team away day?

Junction25 at WYMS, but if we must leave the facility, we love to visit each other’s hometowns and favourite spots!

7. How do you prefer to travel for business?

By car. Purely because I passed my test recently and relied on public transportation for far too long. I love my own company, I’m never going far so it tends to be faster, and I appreciate the freedom to do some car karaoke!

8. What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire to relax?

Home, or a scenic walk. My favourite is Malham Cove.

9. Where is your favourite place to eat in Yorkshire, and what dish do you recommend?

The Westgate Wobble Coffee Bar in Cleckheaton. It’s my family’s business, serving ‘light bites’ and the best handmade pizza. My dad (the cook) is always trying new things, my favourite at the moment is his beef and caramelised onion panini.

10. What do you miss most about Yorkshire when you’re away?

The views, the friendliness, the dialect, and the pubs.
