10 in 10: Martin Crammond

Martin Crammond, technical director at Carney Consultancy, is the latest regional professional in the hot seat as the p.ublished group of newspapers gives him just 10 minutes to answer our 10 burning questions.

What does a typical working day for you involve?

A typical working day includes technical decision making, aiding the team and clients in queries which they may have and supporting the growth and development of our team - along with having my own day-to-day responsibilities.

What makes your company special?

I believe Carney Consultancy is a unique place to work. The ethos and core values are something our staff have chosen and they live up to them on a daily basis. We also have a great support network, internally, by which we all help one another.

Do you have any business rules that you swear by?

My business rules are based around personal integrity, to be accountable for my actions and to ensure a consistent high quality of the work.

Do you dress up or down for work?

Smart casual, I think that’s how it would be described!

What piece of advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

I would tell myself that as long as you work hard, are driven and have a vision, you will be successful in anything you set out to achieve. Don’t take no as a negative, see it as a positive as to how you can grow and improve.

What’s your favourite North East venue for an event or team away day?

We have recently held an inaugural event at Linden Hall for our charity golf day in aid of the Lighthouse Charity. This was a brilliant event and a fantastic venue whereby the facility and team could not do enough to ensure a great day.

How do you prefer to travel for business?

I prefer to drive, mainly for the headspace and somewhere I won’t get judged for my music taste!

What’s your favourite place in the North East to relax?

That is a difficult question, I am hugely passionate about where I live, but anywhere in the rural areas in Northumberland. Fresh air, walking with my wife and our dog, Charlie.

Where is your favourite place to eat in the North East, and what dish do you recommend?

Again, great question, I would have to suggest the Roast Chicken and stuffing sandwich with gravy and chips from the Beehive in Earsdon.

What do you miss most about the North East when you’re away?

I miss the greatest place on earth! The people, the great sense of community, the sea air and a cold beer overlooking Tynemouth Longsands at the Surf Cafe.
