10 in 10: Hanna Pumfrey

Hanna Pumfrey, co-founder of Life Postpartum, is the latest regional professional in the hot seat as the p.ublished group of newspapers gives her just 10 minutes to answer our 10 burning questions.

What does a typical working day for you involve?

As a founder and mum, no two days look the same but there’s always coffee involved! My mornings usually start with time with my daughter before diving into work - I’m a digital marketing specialist by day, working in social media strategy for one of the world’s largest consultancies.

Outside of looking after my little girl and working full time, I also run Life Postpartum with my friend and fellow mum, Hannah Thomson. We dedicate any spare time we have to building the brand - whether it’s strategy meetings, content planning, calls with our expert contributors and responding to the amazing feedback we get from our members.

I always try to carve out a short walk or some movement in the afternoon as it helps me reset and stay grounded. Life is super busy, but I love it and wouldn’t have it any other way.

What makes your company special?

Life Postpartum was born from lived experience, both mine and my co-founder, Hannah’s. We created the kind of support we wished we’d had as new mums and everything we offer is backed by science but delivered with heart. What makes us special is that we see and support the mother, not just the baby - we bring expert-led care, compassion and connection together in a way that’s accessible and non-judgemental.

Do you dress up or down for work?

Mostly down! Comfort is key when you're working from home or juggling childcare. You’ll usually find me in leggings and a hoodie but I do love the rare chance to get dressed up for meetings or events. It’s amazing what a change of outfit can do for your mindset.

What piece of advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Don’t be afraid to change direction - the path won’t always be linear and that’s okay. Every experience will teach you something valuable, even the hard ones. Also, trust your gut, it’s wiser than you think.

What’s your favourite Yorkshire venue for an event or team away day?

The Yorkshire Dales never disappoint. Somewhere with fresh air, wide open spaces and good coffee is the dream! There’s something about being in nature that sparks the best ideas and conversations.

How do you prefer to travel for business?

Train, every time. It gives me a chance to read, catch up on emails or just enjoy a bit of quiet time without distractions. Plus, it's a more sustainable option, which matters to me.

What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire to relax?

I live in Knaresborough and a walk along the river is my go-to choice when I need to unwind. There’s something incredibly calming about the water, watching the boats or sitting beneath the viaduct with a coffee. It’s full of charm, history and hidden corners - it’s the perfect place to switch off for a few hours.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Yorkshire, and what dish do you recommend?

The Mitre in Knaresborough is our local and we love it there! The team has just opened a new restaurant too - Brew & Bao Korean - which is fast becoming our go-to place to head on a Friday evening. The beer and food are great, the staff are super friendly and the kids can run wild in the garden and blow off some energy - what more could you want!

What do you miss most about Yorkshire when you’re away?
The sense of space, the friendliness and the pace of life. There’s a groundedness here that’s hard to find elsewhere and you can’t beat the scenery!

Do you have any business rules that you swear by?

Keep it human. Whether it’s customer experience, team communication or brand voice, people connect with people. And always come back to your 'why' - it’s your anchor when things get chaotic.
