Christmas Spotlight: Lesley Gulliver

 
As we near the end of a landmark year following the gradual return to ‘normality’ post-Covid, we grab 60 seconds with Lesley Gulliver, managing director at The Engine Room, in an exclusive for the p.ublished group of online newspapers, reflection on 2022…

1. After a difficult time for many businesses during the pandemic, what was your primary objective at the start of the year?

To continue to deliver great service, as well as effective and measurable design work. Looking after our clients really well has always been our primary objective.

2. Looking back on 2022, what have been the 3 biggest highlights for The Engine Room?

- Growing a fantastic team of brand experts
- Working alongside some really ambitious clients
- Returning to in-person workshop deliveries at The Engine Room HQ.

3. And the most difficult challenge for your business?

Adapting to a changing and uncertain economic climate. And turning lights off!

4. If you had to sum up 2022 in one word, which would you use?

Busy!

5. What’s The Engine Room’s key goal for next year?

Delight our current clients further, and continue to win new work from forward-thinking organisations.

6. Name another northern firm that you hope will have an outstanding year in 2023…

Paxman.

7. How do you think the regional business climate will fare overall?

This is a time of great uncertainty for every company. But if you’re talking regionally, Yorkshire folk have grit. We will innovate to adapt and come through stronger, together.

8. It’s perhaps the first opportunity to celebrate a ‘real’ Christmas post-Covid – what will it look like for you?


I’m hosting Christmas this year, so it will be nice to relax at home (albeit with lots of shopping, cooking, and cleaning!)

9. What’s the worst Christmas gift you’ve ever been given?

American tan tights.

10. Describe Christmas at your house, in three words

Family. Food. Sleep.
