Christmas Spotlight: Sam Hameed

As we near the end of a landmark year following the gradual return to ‘normality’ post-Covid, we grab 60 seconds with Sam Hameed is co-founder and managing director at technology recruitment firm SPG Resourcing, in an exclusive for the p.ublished group of online newspapers, reflecting on 2022…

1. After a difficult time for many businesses during the pandemic, what was your primary objective at the start of the year?

SPG Resourcing operates in a fast-moving market and it’s essential that we have the right people in place to deliver our client focused culture. Over the past 12 months the business has focused on making strategic hires across both sales and operations to support our growth plans. Our approach to talent advisory has proved popular and we have attracted new clients and on-boarded them. The first 12 months of any business can be a roller coaster but we’ve quickly moved to a growth phase.

2. Looking back on 2022, what have been the 3 biggest highlights for SPG Resourcing?

It was important to hire people who buy into what we are trying to do and we are lucky to have recruited 10 people who bring a wealth of expertise in the technology industry and share our vision.

When establishing a new business it is important to build strong relationships and we have secured 14 clients who partner with us for their resourcing needs. It means the company exceeded its revenue target for the first year.

After a busy launch period it was great to take the team away and spend some time with each other outside of work. We are determined to build a culture where everyone supports each other and we collectively push to improve every part of what we do.

3. And the most difficult challenge for your business?

Our clients understand that people can change a business and finding the right people can build a great business, and the wrong ones can break it. It was equally important to attract the right people to our team and we’ve managed to achieve this goal in a tough market for the technology sector.

4. If you had to sum up 2022 in one word, which would you use?

Tremendous.

5. What’s SPG Resourcing key goal for next year?

Everyone at SPG Resourcing has big ambitions for the business and we aim to double our revenue in 2023. We have put the building blocks in place over the last 12 months by scaling the business into new territories and expanded the range of services on offer.

6. Name another northern firm that hope will have an outstanding year in 2023…

Campfire PR is our communications partner and it's great that they share our culture and are passionate about our business goals. I wish them a successful 2023.

7. How do you think the regional business climate will fare overall?

Good! The Yorkshire technology market is very buoyant with a significant drive across all areas for technology talent. Events like The Leeds Digital Festival are awesome for bringing the tech community together.

8. It’s perhaps the first opportunity to celebrate a ‘real’ Christmas post-Covid – what will it look like for you?

I will be spending time with my family. It will be the first year our lockdown baby Harry (2) will understand Christmas and we are all excited about it.

9. What’s the worst Christmas gift you’ve ever been given?

This year I was given a 'Santa's Shirt' by my team.

10. Describe Christmas at your house, in three words

Funny, messy and chaos!
