Christmas Spotlight: Jo Pickard

As we near the end of a landmark year following the gradual return to ‘normality’ post-Covid, we grab 60 seconds with Jo Pickard, award-winning voice actor, who works in all genres of the industry. From campaigns for Volvo, narration in Channel 5’s Old Wife New Wife, foreign language dubbing for Netflix’s The Girl from Oslo, and character acting in ‘Props’ a fab radio play, you will probably know her best as the face of Omaze UK, here in an exclusive, for the p.ublished group of online newspapers, Jo reflects on 2022…

1. After a difficult time for many businesses during the pandemic, what was your primary objective at the start of the year?

To grow my brand and become a recognisable and trusted voice to ensure the longevity of the business. Covid taught us all that things can change so quickly but with strong foundations you can get through anything.

2. Looking back on 2022, what have been the 3 biggest highlights

Narrating Sir Jackie Stewart’s documentary, Race Against Dementia which is being released shortly to coincide with the exciting news about the new Alzheimer’s drug.
Omaze raising a whopping £8.3m for charities since it’s UK launch in 2020.
and being part of the dubbing voice acting team for a Netflix original movie called Athena

3, And the most difficult challenge for your business?

Breaking into new sectors proved more challenging than first thought but it’s pushed me to grow learn and work harder to smash 2023.

4. If you had to sum up 2022 in one word, which would you use?

Rollercoaster

5. What’s Jo Pickard Voice Actors key goal for next year?

To take the gaming genre by storm! My dream is to gain a lead role in a big franchise.

6. Name another northern firm that hope will have an outstanding year in 2023…

The Star Inn, Harome, after a hard year rebuilding after a devastating fire, it's brilliant to have them back in time for Christmas.

7. How do you think the regional business climate will fare overall?

I fear there are hard times ahead for some industry’s with the back lash of the war, Covid, Brexit, and governmental instability all playing a part. We need to back all British business in anyway we can.

8. It’s perhaps the first opportunity to celebrate a ‘real’ Christmas post-Covid – what will it look like for you?

It’s all about family and friends for us, eat drink laugh and enjoy the precious time together.

9. What’s the worst Christmas gift you’ve ever been given?

A really huge kids teddy bear, I was 41 years old! Hilarious when we realised I’d got the wrong gift.
